Forsyth County Republican Women...The Life of the Party!
I was recently talking with a former co-worker of mine and the topic of the
election came up.  He is an undecided voter and said that at this point, he
would be happy to see either, Obama, Clinton, or McCain get elected to
the White House.  To you and me, this is a shocking statement!  We all
know that there is no contest when it comes to choosing a Republican
over a Democrat, but there are those out there who do not see things in
black and white as we do.  I think it is important that we are able to
educate voters on the differences between Republicans and Democrats.
If we outlined the two philosophies and asked someone to choose which
one they most identify with, many would choose Republican.

Republicans and Democrats have differences in basic fundamental
beliefs when it comes to various national and local issues.

The main theme of the Democrat Party philosophy is the expansion of the
“general welfare” as it relates to the powers of the Federal government.
The New Deal, Fair Deal, New Frontier, and Great Society are all
examples of this. This philosophy places more emphasis and control with
the Executive Branch than with the other two branches of the Federal
government.

The Republican philosophy is based on the restraint of power.  It includes
limited powers of the Federal government outlined by the Constitution and
puts the balance of power among all three branches of the Federal
government leaving the freedom of the states and their people to promote
their own welfare.  It is rooted in the belief in individual rights and
responsibilities.  The primary purpose of government should be to free
each individual so that they are allowed to develop the very best that is in
them and have the power and opportunity to determine their own destiny.

Democrat administrations have pushed for more and more centralized
power in Washington with the rights of individuals and communities
coming in second.  This has meant increasingly tighter federal control
and regulation.

Republican administrations have worked to continue the Republican
Party’s guarantees of economic freedoms for all Americans.  This
includes the freedom to work, through the creation of jobs and increase of
wages, the freedom to enjoy the fruits of one’s labor through guaranteed
protection from the burdens of excessive borrowing, spending, and taxing,
the freedom to own and control one’s property through the protection of
possessions, and the freedom to participate in a free economy by working
to enhance rather than hinder private economic growth.

Financial responsibility and elimination of over-government is another
area where the two parties differ.  Democrats promote an economic order
that depends on the Federal government’s control of planning and
regulation.  This usually translates into taking our tax money to spend on
“our behalf” and regulating much of our lives.  The Democrats believe that
if government is given enough money, it can solve anything.

Republicans believe in fiscal responsibility and usually scrutinize every
new spending program from the perspective of need and cost.
Republican’s believe in keeping taxes low so that the people have the
opportunity to keep more of their hard earned money and spend it as they
see fit.

The last major area that the two parties differ on is foreign policy.
Republicans believe that only a strong America can remain a free
America.  It is absolutely essential to maintain a strong national defense
so that we can negotiate from a position of strength, not weakness, in our
continuing efforts toward world peace and friendship.

Democrats, on the other hand, have a tendency to deplete and weaken
our military resources which puts us in a vulnerable position when it
comes to national defense and foreign policy.

The next time you run across an undecided voter, ask them if they really
know what it means to vote for a Democrat?  Help them understand that
the Republican philosophy is the one that has the best interests of the
American people at heart.
