About Us
What is FCRW?
FCRW was chartered in January 1953 and was one of the first to be so
chartered in North Carolina. At present, there are approximately 130
members and 50 associate members. Since its initial charter, many
FCRW members have successfully sought positions in our state
organization, the North Carolina Federation of Republican Women
(NCFRW), the National Federation of Republican Women (NFRW) as well
as various elected and appointed positions in government. Today, FCRW
are the cornerstone of the Republican grassroots efforts in Forsyth County.
North Carolina Federation of Republican Women
The North Carolina Federation of Republican Women (NCFRW) officially
formed and received its charter in 1953. The organization came into
existence due to the work and efforts of Forsyth County's own Anne
Hickman. Fourteen clubs, including Forsyth County Republican Women,
represented the first convention held in Hickory on April 11, 1953. Four
Forsyth County Women have served as president of NCFRW.

Forsyth County Republican Women
National Federation of Republican Women
The National Federation of Republican Women (NFRW) - Republican
women's clubs have existed for more than 100 years. The oldest club on
record was founded in Salt Lake City in the early 1870s, inspired by the
Republican Platform in 1872 which said, "The Republican Party is mindful
of its obligation to the loyal women of America for their noble devotion to the
cause of freedom..." Hundreds of Republican women's clubs were
organized throughout the county in the years that followed.
In 1938, Miss Marion Martin, Assistant Chairman of the Republican
National Committee called a meeting at the Palmer House in Chicago to
organize these clubs into a national organization. Rules were adopted to
govern the establishment of the National Federation of Republican Women.
Today, NFRW is the largest women's political organization in the country
with approximately 120,000 members in over 2,000 clubs throughout the
50 states and U.S. territories. The NFRW has a distinct advantage over
other political women's organizations because they have a diverse
membership with respect to age, ethnic background and economic
situation while being linked by a common philosophy. Unlike other political
organizations, NFRW has an official affiliation with the Republican Party.
Since its inception, NFRW has maintained a strong grassroots force,
realizing that the national organization is only as strong as its membership.
